As the parents of a child with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, we have dealt with many of the challenges that other parents have faced, such as not being able to have a complete conversation while in public for fear that our son might get lost or wander away, and the worst of all, the gut wrenching feeling when you realize that you don’t know where your child is. When a parent at my son’s school told me about this tracking device we began checking into it with hopes that this might give us a little piece of mind when we go to the fair or any other crowded place. We had no idea the help it offers until we received it and began using it. This tracking device is likely the single most helpful piece of technology we have ever encountered. As we used it more and more in our everyday lives we began to see that we could actually look at the people we were speaking to and complete a thought without the “eye darting” to find our son. We were able to relax with the knowledge that our son was within the boundary we set. We were only interrupted when the alarm sounded letting us know he had left the perimeter. The easy to use base unit allowed us to go right to where he was and bring him back into our boundary. As I have expressed to the inventor, this is the best invention I have ever seen for parents. Every pitfall has been thought of with this device.
As people began to see the device in action and ask questions about it, we found ourselves answering evermore questions from more and more parents. We called the manufacturer and discussed sales in Ohio so that it was more accessible to parents here. We were then asked if we would be interested in selling them. We thought about it and decided that this would be a good opportunity to make something available to parents that we feel very strongly is almost necessary for all children including typical children. We started by working through Delaware County to become a provider so that families utilizing Family Directed Resources, could save some money over the price from the manufacturer. Our next project was becoming a Statewide Medicaid Provider, again to make sure that this device was available and affordable to as many people as possible. This took more time than anticipated and a ton of paperwork but we finally received our approval letter. We were currently approved for;
I/O Service –
Environmental Modifications
Adaptive Assistive Equipment as well as
Level one Service –
Specialized Medical Adaptive/Assistive Equipment & Supplies
Personal Emergency Response
Environmental Accessibility Adaptation
Finally, the company has begun to grow quite rapidly due to the exposure that it has received from 10 TV News and the Columbus Dispatch. We are trying very hard to keep up with the demand for knowledge about the device as well as orders. Please look around, if there is something you think we should be doing or a question you may have let us know in an email or call us up. For those receiving services from any of the above mentioned Medicaid programs or County MRDD programs, please speak directly with your service coordinator and if we don’t already work with your county we will submit all necessary paperwork to begin a new relationship. Thank you for visiting this site. We hope that you find the Ionkids device as helpful as we do.
Sincerely,
Darrell and Deanna Kem
